Software Central also negotiates agreements including terms under which a department can purchase directly from a vendor. Data on those agreements is not included above.

The Summary above does not include the indirect savings (ex. reduced duplication of effort in areas such as vendor management, support and training, order and renewal process, etc.) resulting from the coordination of UCLA’s software licensing activities. Additionally, consolidating UCLA’s software acquisition volume provides additional leverage to obtain improved terms and conditions from vendors. Per Gartner, "During a five-year life cycle, improving software terms and conditions can reduce total cost of ownership by 25% or more."

  1. To calculate the savings per agreement detailed above, in most cases we have compared the lowest single license price available without the UCLA agreement to the cost for the same product under the UCLA agreement to determine the savings per license. We then multiplied the savings per license by the number of licenses in use.
  2. Average savings.
