                                                          SECURITY VULNERABILITY for SPSS

Please be advised that there is a vulnerability in the version of Log4j that is part of IBM SPSS Statistics. This impacts SPSS v25, v26, v27, & v28. IBM SPSS Statistics has addressed this vulnerability and has released a hotfix depending on your version of SPSS, and it would need to be implemented on top of an existing SPSS install. This fix can be acquired through the Software Central download server.

The specific SPSS version impacted by this vulnerability are as follows:

• v27.0.1
• v26.0.0.1
• v25.0.0.2

To find which SPSS version is installed on your computer you will need to go to the SPSS "help" menu item, click on "about", which will then present you with the version of SPSS that is installed on your computer. If your version is not listed above then you are not at any risk for the vulnerability and no further action is required.  Here is more information about this on the IBM/SPSS web page. https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/6526182

Should you need to apply the hotfix to your version of SPSS please follow the directions listed below.

Here are the directions to obtain the IBM SPSS Statistics Hotfix patch software electronically.

Step 1.
From the browser navigate to https://download.softwarecentral.ucla.edu.  You will see the titles of all the software on our server. 

Step 2.
Click on the "SPSS" link to be presented with links “SPSS_Hotfix” folder.

Step 3.
Download the .zip file and extract it and then the follow instructions in the “Readme” file.

IBM provides a statistical data analysis package SPSS Statistics Premium which runs on both Windows and Macintosh platforms.  UCLA’s SPSS license includes all SPSS Modules.

Licenses are available to all UCLA Departments, for use by current staff, faculty or students for any UCLA work, research, or course work.
